~ About Us ~
Watership Danes resides in Brookfield Wisconsin. Our journey into 'Danehood' began after we brought home our first pup in 2001. A beautiful fawn female that we named Zoey, who was destined to have health and temperament problems. Thus began our dedication to educate others about Danes, especially purchasing from reputable breeders (which we obviously learned in retrospect.) (Also - click here to see an example of why you should stay away from pet store puppies as well.)

You'll also notice that the focus of most of our personal research is based on natural rearing. In this aspect, Zoey has taught us much. This is the basis of our entire website, so please use this information to your advantage.

Diesel, our second Dane, joined our home in February 2003. A handsome brindle male from two wonderful breeders and mentors. He was destined for the show ring from day one, even though we only wanted another companion (of which of course he is.)

I've had rabbits since I was in high school (1990's.) This is where our kennel name comes from. Watership Down is a famous novel based on rabbits. Drop the word Down and add the word Danes, and the rest is history in the making.

Lastly, we are members of the Great Dane Club of Milwaukee. We also help out with transports for Dane T.R.A.I.N and have been doing volunteer work with local humane societies for years (and are currently inactive volunteers of the Milwaukee County Zoo - meaning we continue to pay our volunteer membership dues, but don't have time to actively volunteer.)
